Woollens out as temp dips after fresh spell of snow, rain in Jammu

The woollen clothes are out once again as the temperature has dipped after a fresh spell of snow on higher reaches and rain in the plains across the Jammu region.


The Jammu district, however, recorded a 19.5-degree Celsius maximum temperature and an 11.5-degree Celsius minimum temperature.


Officials said that the hilly places Banihal recorded a minimum temperature of 4.5 degree Celsius, Katra recorded 8.8 degree Celsius, Bhaderwah 3.5 degree Celsius and Kathua 10.4 degree Celsius.


Meanwhile, the upper reaches of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan also received a fresh spell of snow, while the Katra-Sanjichhat Chopper service remained hit due to the hailstorm and fog, said officials.


A weatherman while sharing a week-long weather update said, “overall erratic weather is to continue till March 20, and it rained at many places in the Kashmir Division and a few places in the Jammu Division.”


He said that on March 15-16, intermittent light to moderate rain or snow (higher reaches) till March 16 forenoon at many places.


On March 17, he said that it will be partly cloudy with brief spells of light rain or snow (higher reaches) at isolated places, and on March 18-20, it will be generally cloudy with the possibility of intermittent light to moderate rain or snow at many places, generally towards night or morning hours.


On March 21 to 23, the weather will be generally dry, and on March 24 and 25, it will be generally cloudy with light rain or snow (higher reaches) at scattered places.


The travellers, transporters, and generally public travelling over higher reaches and important passes are advised to plan accordingly, as there is a possibility of thunder or gusty winds (40-50 KMPH) at a few places during March 15, 16, 18, and 20.


Farmers are advised to suspend farm operations from March 15 to 20, he added.
