68 Year Old Bridge Collapses In Kupwara Due To Heavy Rain

Kupwara :  As a result of the intense rainfalls, the bridge at Regipora that connects the Kupwara town with the Regipora collapsed on Tuesday night.

More than 100 meters long bridge built in 1950’s, the bridge did not resist the strength of the water from the Hyhama River, however no loss of life or injury reported in the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir said that an old weak bridge built in 1950’s, collapsed on Tuesday night, however this will not affect on public as well as traffic movement.

He added that this bridge was used by pedestrians, no loss of life or injury reported in the incident, officials added that traffic movement will ply on new bridge.

It is mention here that light motor vehicles was seen ply on this bridge after declared unsafe by the authorities in 2008. However, there was no restriction or barriers on the said bridge from the district administration, locals said.

It is pertinent to mention here that heavy rainfall which reported last week witnessed a flood-like situation in parts of Kashmir.
