The Jammu and Kashmir government announced summer vacation for all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir Valley for two weeks beginning July 6.
Minister for Education Sakina Itoo said that all schools will remain closed during the vacation period and will reopen on July 20.
“In view of the prevailing weather conditions across the Kashmir Valley, all government and recognised private schools shall observe summer vacation from 6th July to 19th July 2026. Schools will reopen on 20th July 2026,” the minister said in a statement.
Emphasising the safety and well-being of students, Itoo said the government had taken the decision, keeping in mind the health of children, teachers and school staff amid the ongoing heatwave.
She wished students, teachers and school employees a safe, healthy and refreshing break and advised everyone to remain hydrated, take necessary precautions during the hot weather and make productive use of the vacation by reading, resting and spending quality time with family.
Over the last two days, daytime temperatures remained 4°C to 8°C above normal, resulting in heatwave conditions over many areas.
