Ahead of the start of an annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, thousands of devotees turned out, marking the first day of token distribution here at Tawi Riverfront Centre – a few metres short of the Bhagwati Nagar-based Yatri Niwas.
The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra shall begin on July 3, while the first batch will be flagged off from here on July 2.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Rakesh Minhas, flanked by Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu Joginder Singh and other officials, supervised the token distribution at the centre.
“A massive turnout of devotees marked the first day of token distribution. Today’s quota has been successfully allocated”, said the district magistrate Rakesh Minhas.
He said that Yatri registrations will commence tomorrow, adding. “The district administration remains fully committed to ensuring a smooth, safe and convenient experience for all pilgrims.”
Minhas further stated that the District Administration Jammu has made all arrangements for hosting and facilitating the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 devotees this year.
“This year special arrangements have been made at the Tawi Riverfront Centre for maximum facilitation with stay and resting facilities for around all yatris, while over 100 toilets and bathrooms and 24×7 Langar (community kitchen) arrangements have also been made,” he said.
For the information of all yatris, the District Magistrate said that 18 counters for transparent token distribution and registration have been set up and other centres, including Gita Bhawan, Mahajan Hall, Shri Ram Mandir Purani Mandi and the Railway Station, will continue to operate as before.
The Deputy Commissioner, however, appealed to the people of Jammu to extend their best hospitality to visitors and encouraged tourists to explore the places around Jammu for a memorable stay.
