India leads world’s major democracies in transparent electoral process: CEC

Date:

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Monday said India has emerged as a global leader among the world’s major democracies.

Addressing reporters during his ongoing visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the CEC said the country’s electoral process—from the preparation of electoral rolls to polling—is transparent and accountable.

“Through you all, I would like to invite the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir. Today, we interacted with the pillars of democracy—the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of Budgam. We discussed that every stage of India’s election process, including the preparation of electoral rolls and voting, is concurrently audited by political parties and candidates,” Kumar said.

He asserted that India’s election management system has become a benchmark for democracies across the world.

“Looking this process of Indian elections, in 2026 Bharat is currently leading all the large democratic countries of the world and is also the chairperson of the International IDEA,” he said.

The CEC also conveyed his greetings to political leaders and election officials in the union Territory.

“Once again, through you all, I extend my greetings to all the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir and to all BLOs, BLO supervisors, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and District Election Officers (DEOs),” he added.

Kumar arrived in Srinagar on Sunday on a three-day official visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

During the visit, he is scheduled to interact with voters, political stakeholders and field-level election officials besides reviewing electoral initiatives and preparedness at the grassroots level across the Valley.
