Ahead of the budget session starting from Monday, the National Conference and the Congress have convened legislature party meetings here on Sunday.

To be held after nearly seven years with Central rule coming to an end in Jammu and Kashmir, the more than month-long upcoming budget session will begin with a ceremonial address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The National Conference (NC) chief whip Mubarak Gul has convened a legislature party meeting at the official residence of Chief Minister and party’s vice president Omar Abdullah on March 2.

Meanwhile the Congress party chief whip Nizam-ud-Din Bhat has separately asked its legislators to ensure their presence at the meeting at the party headquarters in Jammu on March 2.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on February 27 chaired an all-party meeting of the legislators and sought cooperation during the budget session.

This will be the first budget of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led National Conference government after assuming power in October last year.

The last budget session had taken place during the PDP-BJP government in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018.

The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories after abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
