Congress to launch ‘Delhi Chalo’ campaign for J&K Statehood

The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has announced a series of protests, including the ‘Delhi Chalo’ campaign, to intensify its demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The agitation begins with protests in Kashmir on July 19 and Jammu on July 20, followed by a symbolic gherao of Parliament in Delhi on July 21, coinciding with the start of the Monsoon Session.

J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said the party, backed by 233 INDIA bloc MPs, is leading the struggle both inside and outside Parliament.

He emphasized that restoring statehood is not possible without Congress intervention and accused the BJP-led Centre of ignoring public sentiment.

Karra reiterated that Congress is focused on statehood restoration, not Article 370, in line with the Supreme Court’s verdict.

He criticised the “dual-control system” under the Reorganisation Act, saying it has harmed development and deepened confusion in the region.

He also thanked Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for writing to PM Narendra Modi, demanding legislation in the upcoming session to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and include Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.(KINS)
