As Eid-ul-Fitr is set to be celebrated on Saturday across Jammu and Kashmir, greetings poured in from political and religious leaders on the festive eve, highlighting themes of peace, unity, and compassion.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as to those celebrating across the globe, on the auspicious occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Nauroz.
In his message on these festive occasions, the Chief Minister underscored the spiritual significance of Eid as a divine celebration after a month of fasting, prayers and self-discipline during Ramadan.
He noted that the festival is an occasion to offer gratitude to the Almighty and to celebrate the values of compassion, generosity and unity nurtured during the holy month.
“Eid is a joyous occasion that brings people together to celebrate the blessings of Ramadan. It strengthens the bonds of community and reaffirms the values of mutual respect and brotherhood. It is a time to spread happiness, extend kindness and lend a helping hand to those in need,” he said.
The Chief Minister further observed that the festival reflects the rich ethos of communal harmony, shared heritage and cultural inclusivity that defines Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing the spirit of unity and peace.
On this occasion, he prayed for lasting peace, sustained progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and conveyed his best wishes to all those celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr worldwide.
The Chief Minister also extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Nauroz.
He said that Nauroz festival marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the Persian New Year, symbolizes renewal, hope, harmony and prayed for peace to prevail in the world.
He said that the festival, celebrated with great enthusiasm in various parts of the region, reflects a rich cultural heritage and the spirit of togetherness.
The Chief Minister prayed for sustained peace, development, and prosperity in Jammu & Kashmir and hoped that the festival would bring joy and positivity to every household.
Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Javid Dar and Health Minister Sakeena Itoo also conveyed their warm greetings, wishing people happiness and prosperity on the festive occasions.
Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in her message, wished the people well-being and prosperity, expressing hope that the festival would strengthen bonds of communal harmony and bring peace and stability to Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.
She reminded people of the true essence of Eid, emphasizing compassion, gratitude, and the importance of remembering the poor and needy while sharing the joy of the occasion.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, she said the festival is an occasion to rededicate oneself to truthfulness, sincerity, self-discipline, patience and piety, while expressing gratitude to the Almighty for the strength to observe the fasts.
Referring to the ongoing situation in Iran, Mufti expressed concern over the humanitarian challenges faced by its people. In a recent appeal, she urged people to come forward with donations through the Iranian Embassy to support those affected, calling for compassion and solidarity in these difficult times.
She reiterated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have always upheld the values of mutual coexistence and brotherhood, which remain central to the region’s unique cultural identity.
Mufti also prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being for all, urging people to use the occasion to foster unity, reconciliation and collective progress.
Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also extended Eid greetings to people of the. While acknowledging Eid as a day of joy, he said the happiness remains incomplete due to suffering in Palestine, Iran, and other conflict-hit areas. He also remembered Kashmiri prisoners lodged in jails, praying for their well-being and early release.
The Mirwaiz urged people to celebrate Eid with simplicity and to remember the underprivileged, appealing for prayers for the entire Ummah.
Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari extended greetings and appealed to people to share their happiness with the poor and needy, emphasizing support for underprivileged sections of society.
BJP leader Altaf Thakur also conveyed Eid greetings, describing the festival as a reflection of compassion, generosity, and spiritual renewal. He expressed hope that the occasion would bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to people across communities.
Emphasizing communal harmony, Thakur said festivals like Eid reinforce mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, adding that Jammu and Kashmir’s legacy of cultural diversity and brotherhood should guide collective efforts toward development and prosperity.
