J&K handicapped association observes world Disability day as black day to press their demands

The Members of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association observed the “World Handicapped day” as “black day” and held a protest demonstration in Srinagar to press their demands on Tuesday.


The specially abled persons holding banners and placards assembled at press enclave on the fashionable Residency road in Srinagar today demanded among other things reservation for the handicapped people of Jammu and Kashmir.


Talking to media the President of the association Abdul Rashid Bhat said on this day around the world new schemes are being announced for the specially abled persons, but unfortunately the government in Jammu and Kashmir have failed to address the main issues of the community so far.


He said the members are being forced to come out on the roads for their genuine demands as the government has failed to address the issues of the community.


Bhat demanded employment for the educated youth of the community besides enhancing the monthly pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000.


He also demanded implementation of the 2016 Disability Act in full in Jammu and Kashmir.


“Provide reservation quota to the community on the same pattern of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe of Jammu and Kashmir”, Bhat demanded.


Bhat said that he has written to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Health and Social Welfare Minister Sakeena Itoo for a meeting to submit our genuine demands so that a road map for the community could be formulated.
