Srinagar: Residents in Hayhama area in Kangan in Ganderbal district are aghast with the government for failing to repair the 15-year-old damaged wooden bridge.

The residents said that successive governments have failed to repair the bridge, a vital connection of the area, even after promising it with the people.

“Though all the governments come to power on the promise of development, yet for over a decade the bridge has not been repaired. It is very dangerous for us to travel on the damaged bridge,” residents told KNS.

Senior National Conference leader and legislator form Kangan Mian Altaf told KNS that he has sanctioned 8.5 lakh rupees for the repairmen of the bridge, but the PDP-led government has failed to repair the bridge.

“Five months before, I have written a letter to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to take funds from my CDF for the repairing the bridge, but surprisingly noting has been done yet,” Altaf told KNS.

The legislator said that the PDP government has failed to address even small development issues of people “so how can they repair a damaged bridge. I fail to understand why the government is stalling the work even though their representative has given funds for it”.

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Showkat Aijaz Bhat told KNS that he has asked the ACD to make an estimate of the work and start work on it. (KNS)
