Police books two notorious thieves under Public Safety Act in Shopian

 In its continuous drive against habitual offenders who pose a serious threat to public peace and order, Police in Shopian have detained Altaf Mushtaq Ganie son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie resident of Meemander Shopian and Showkat Ahmad Wani son of Gh Nabi resident of Astan Mohalla Arhama Shopian, under the Public Safety Act.

Both the accused are chronic offenders with a criminal history spanning over a decade. A total of 12 FIRs are registered against them at Police Station Shopian, Altaf Mushtaq is involved in 07 FIRs and Showkat Ahmad is involved in 05 different FIRs of Police Station Shopian. Despite repeated arrests and legal proceedings, they continued to indulge in criminal activities after being released on bail, thereby posing a constant nuisance to the public. Given their persistent involvement in theft, burglary, intimidation, and other offences, both have been declared habitual offenders and a threat to public peace. After completion of all legal formalities, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate, Shopian, following which both accused were taken into custody and lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
