Demanding constitution of ad-hoc body in a request made to the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, a Jammu based social activist along with former national players on Friday demanded probe by the independent agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in alleged misappropriation of funds by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
“We urge the UT administration to initiate CBI probe in “misappropriation of funds” provided by J&K Sports Council for promotion of sports and violating new election policy approved by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha,” Balvinder Singh, a renowned social activist flanked by number of former national hockey players here told reporters at a press conference.
LG Manoj Sinha is also president of J&K Sports Council.
Sharing details further, Singh said that on June 30, 2019, then Chief Sports Officer dashed a letter to one of the members of the Sports Council to enquire into the allegations leveled by former national players but astonishingly, the report submitted to the then Secretary, Sports Council was never brought into public domain and no action was initiated against the office bearers of Hockey J&K till date.
“We request the J&K Sports Council to disband Hockey J&K and constitute an Ad-hoc body to run the day to day affairs of hockey till the outcome of final verdict of CBI enquiry,” Singh demanded.
He also alleged that the Sports Council under pressure from the former minister hushed up the cases and pending enquiry against office bearers of Hockey J&K, to protect henchmen of senior officials of the Indian Olympic Association , who was the then treasurer of Hockey J&K.
The social activist added, “a representation was also submitted to the then Advisor to LG J&K UT seeking action but he showed helplessness.”
Singh further urged upon the LG Manoj Sinha to order probe and also initiate action against some of the officials of the Hockey J&K, where FIR has already been registered in “sexual harassment” allegations leveled by some female players.
“LG Manoj Sinha must personally intervene and take action against the officials of Hockey J&K, whose name has also figured in the FIR by sacking him besides terminating the membership of another, recently inducted as member J&K Sports Council,” the social activist demanded.
