Date:

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir Campaign’ has dealt a major blow to the narcotics network across the union Territory, with more than 730 smugglers and peddlers arrested during the past 32 days.

Addressing a gathering during a padyatra in Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Kupwara, the Lieutenant Governor said the anti-drug drive has evolved into a people’s movement and is steadily turning into a “revolution against narcotics.”

“Over the past 32 days, we’ve struck a devastating blow to the entire drug smuggling ecosystem & this people’s movement is transforming into a revolution against narcotics,” the LG said in his address.

He said the administration’s sustained crackdown has significantly weakened narco-terrorist networks operating in the region.

“Our consistent action is crippling narco-terrorist networks,” he added.

According to the LG, authorities have seized properties worth crores of rupees linked to drug smugglers, while several assets have also been confiscated as part of the intensified campaign.

He further said that recommendations have been made for cancellation of passports of 15 alleged drug smugglers to curb their activities and dismantle cross-border narcotics links.

“Over 730 smugglers and peddlers have been arrested,” he added.

The padyatra in Kupwara witnessed participation from officials, students, civil society members, and local residents, who pledged support for a drug-free society.

LG Sinha who launched the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan last month has travelled extensively across the union Territory to build momentum against drug use.
