Kashmir reeled under intense heat on Monday as Srinagar recorded the season’s highest maximum temperature of 35.3°C, which is 5.3°C above normal, according to official data.
The summer capital witnessed its hottest day of the season so far, coming close to last year’s peak maximum temperature of 35.5°C.
Other parts of the Valley also experienced significantly above-normal temperatures. Qazigund- the gateway town of Kashmir- recorded 33.8°C, which was 5.0°C above normal, while Kokernag in south Kashmir registered 32.9°C, also 5.0°C above normal.
The famous tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded 29.0°C, 3.6°C above normal, while Kupwara settled at 32.7°C, 2.7°C above normal. Gulmarg, another popular hill resort, recorded 26.2°C, which was 5.2°C above normal.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast a change in weather from July 1 to July 5, with fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Met Department said July 2 and 3 are likely to witness heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by brief intense showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds at a few locations.
