Budgam Gunfight: DNA Test To Identify Slain Militant As Body ‘Beyond Recognition’

Date:

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it will conduct a DNA test to identify a militant who was killed along with LeT commander Naveed Jatt in a gunfight in Budgam on Wednesday.

Sources told GNS that two families from Sopore and  Pulwama were summoned to police control room Srinagar for identification of the slain militant whose body “is beyond recognition.”

“However, while the Pulwama family said the slain militant wasn’t their kin, the Sopore family said it wasn’t sure,” a police official told GNS.

“A DNA test will be conducted to identify the slain militant,” the officer said.

Earlier, militant outfit Lashkar-Toiba had paid tributes to Jatt and “his associate Meraj Ahmad martyred while fighting Indian forces” even as a video purportedly showing local residents helping a third militant escape from the site of the gunfight went viral on social media. (GNS)
