Hasnain Masoodi hands over shocking defeat to Mehbooba, G A Mir Ladakh

Srinagar: National Conference’s Hasnain Masoodi handed over a shocking defeat to the People’s Democratic Party President and former Chief Minister Mehoobba Mufti from the Anantnag parliamentary constituency.
Masoodi, a former judge of the high court, defeated Mehbooba by 9656 votes. In fact, Mehbooba was second runner up and G A Mir, State Congress chief, was the nearest rival to Masoodi and he fell shot by 6676 votes.
The NC candidate polled 40180 votes in comparison to 33504 votes secured by the Congress chief and 30524 votes by Mehbooba Mufti.
This is the first-ever loss of Mehbooba Mufti from the south Kashmir parliamentary constituency which comprises of 16 assembly segments spread over three districts of Anantnag (6), Kulgam (4), Pulwama (4) and Shopian (2). In total, the constituency had polled 124896 votes.
There were total eighteen candidates in fray and none of them could garner 9 percent votes and among them included BJP leader Sofi Yousuf, a former member of the state legislative council, who polled 10225 votes (8.19%). Shams Khwaja, a lawyer from UP, who become the first non-state subject to contest any election from Jammu and Kashmir got 760 votes (0.61%).
From Srinagar, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Aga Syed Mohsin, by a margin of nearly 70000 votes.
Abdullah polled 106577 votes against Mohsin, who got 36,625 votes, officials said.
There were 12 candidates in the fray and Peoples Conference’s candidate Irfan Raza Ansari was the second runner-up with 28749 voters.
National Conference’s Mohammad Akbar Lone, who was trailing behind in first few rounds of counting, polled 131869 votes, 29.52 percent of the total votes polled, to defeat his nearest rival—People Conference candidate and former police officer Raja Aijaz Ali (102212 votes) by a margin of 29657 votes.
Er Rashid, AIP chief, who was leading initially, ended up as second runner up, getting 100042, 22.4% of the total 446673 votes polled for the parliamentary constituency spanning over Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts.
Former state government employees union leader and PDP candidate from Baramulla Abdul Qayoom Wani polled 53300, 11.86% of the total votes
Bharatiya Janata Party candidates won the parliamentary seats of Jammu, Udhampur and Ladakh.
According to the final result, party’s Jugal Kishore polled 772190 votes to defeat his nearest rival Raman Bhalla of Congress (514274) by 261983 votes from Jammu.
Dr Jitendra Singh who polled 706529 votes defeated Congress’s Vikramaditya Singh (362413) by a whopping margin of 344116 votes.
From Ladakh, Party’s candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgyal who got 32616 votes defeated his nearest rival Independent candidate Sajjad Hussain (27194) by a margin of 5422 votes. (GNS)
