OGW Escapes From Police Custody Sopore, Searches Launched

Srinagar: A militant activist who was arrested four days back in Sopore outskirts, fled from police station in the Apple town on Friday afternoon.

Reports reaching GNS said that the inmate namely Mehraj Ud Din Khan alias Marouf of New Colony Sopore escaped from police custody from police station Sopore.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal also confirmed the incident and said that a manhunt has been launched in Sopore to trace out the fleeing OGW.

“We are verifying as to how the OGW managed to escape from the police station,” SSP said.

Mehraj Ud Din Khan, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) was arrested four days back by Sopore police during a naka.

Pertinently, Majeed Ahmad Mir, an OGW who also escaped from police station Bomai few months back and later joined Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit.

Mir was later killed along with his associate last week in an encounter at Tujjer in outskirts of Sopore. (GNS)
