Police foil bovine theft attempt in Handwara; Accused arrested

In a swift operation, Police in Handwara apprehended an individual involved in bovine theft at Mawer Crossing on the evening of July 4, 2025.

A police team from Police Station Qalamabad, while conducting night patrolling duty, intercepted a suspicious person leading a group of bovines near Mawer Crossing. Upon noticing the police party presence, the suspect attempted to flee, but the police team swiftly responded, effectively apprehending him on the spot. He has been identified as Mohd Ismaiel Badana, son of Gulam ud Din, a resident of Lahikote Monabal. Further investigation revealed that Mohd Ismaiel Badana had stolen the bovines from the Puthwari Nowgam area and was attempting to transport them illegally towards Qalamabad for sale.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 20/2025 has been registered under Section 303(2) BNS at Police Station Qalamabad and further investigation is underway.

Police have vowed to continue their vigilance and strengthen efforts to prevent such criminal activities in the area, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law.(JKNS)
