Weather improves across Kashmir, likely to stay dry

Weather across Kashmir improved on Wednesday after incessant rain and snowfall over several days triggered flood-like situation in the valley.


Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley experienced light rainfall bringing down the temperature during the past 24 hours.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicted the weather will remain generally dry with sporadic afternoon thundershowers activities at a few places during the next 24 hours.

The weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain and thunder at scattered places on May 3 while there are changes of afternoon thundershower activity at a few places during May 4 and 5.

On May 6-7, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain and thunder at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir.

The MeT has advised farmers to resume farm operations from today.

The minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded below normal in the Kashmir Valley amid cold weather conditions that forced the people and tourists to wear warm clothes.

The day temperature in all weather stations of the valley were recorded 10-12 degrees below normal on Tuesday while the night temperature dropped 3-6 degrees during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Srinagar recorded a low of 7.1 degrees Celsius and it was 2.6 degrees below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

The minimum temperature at the tourist spot of Pahalgam slightly improved and was recorded at 2.7 degrees Celsius against the 0.7 degree Celsius, but it was still 2.2 degrees below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius against minus 1.5 degrees Celsius and it was 5.5 degrees below normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
