Nine residential houses gutted in separate fire incidents in Srinagar

At least nine residential houses were damaged in two separate fire incidents that broke out in Srinagar while two firemen were injured in the operation on Monday, officials said.

Two firefighters were injured during an operation at the Eidgah area of Srinagar city this afternoon.

They have been identified as leading fireman Mohammad Yaqoob and fireman Fayaz Ahmad who were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and their condition is stated to be stable, Fire and Emergency officials said.

They said that fire broke out in a house at Eidgah Srinagar this afternoon and engulfed other nearby houses causing damage to four residential houses.

The fire-fighters had to fight it out to bring the fire under control at Eidgah, they said.

Earlier in the morning at least five residential structures were gutted in a devastating fire incident that broke out at Kursoo Rajbagh around 11.45 AM, causing damage to the property.

“As soon as the fire call was received, several fire tenders were rushed from the various fire stations of the city to douse the leaping flames to bring the fire under control”, they said.

The cause of the fire is being ascertained at both places, they said.
